Press Briefing -Update on the implementation of the immediate and unconditional ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand

From midnight on 4 August 2025 until 6:10 AM this morning, the situation along the frontlines in Preah Vihear and OddarMeanchey provinces has remained calm and stable. The Cambodian Armed Forces continue to stand strong, fully vigilant, and committed to fulfilling their duties. Cambodia remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding and implementing the ceasefire agreement reached on 28 July 2025 in Malaysia.
 
With the determined, transparent, sincere, and unwavering efforts of the Royal Government of Cambodia and its Armed Forces, Cambodia continues to fully respect and implement all terms and conditions of the ceasefire agreement, with the goal of achieving a steady and lasting recovery of the situation.
 
Yesterday, the Department of International Relations of the Ministry of National Defence officially informed the Defence Attaché of Thailand to the Kingdom of Cambodia regarding the facilitation of visiting by the ASEAN Defence Attaché Observer Team. This interim mission, led by the Malaysian Defence Attaché in collaboration with the Department of International Relations and other participating countries, is scheduled to visit the affected border areas in OddarMeanchey and Preah Vihear provinces starting from 3 August 2025.
 
On 3 August 2025, the interim ASEAN Military Observer Group—comprising representatives from six countriesincluding: Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam—departed from Phnom Penh for the conflict-affected areas in Oddar Meanchey and Preah Vihear. The mission is led by Colonel Nazlee Bin Abdul Rahim, the Defence Attaché of Malaysia to Cambodia, and aims to observe the situation following recent armed clashes between the Cambodian and Thai militaries.
 
The purpose of the mission is to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire, which will be conducted over a full two-week period. This activity follows the outcome of the special meeting held on 28 July 2025 in Malaysia, which resulted in a mutual agreement on the ceasefire. The participation of these partner countries reflects a shared commitment to ensuring the success and sustainability of the ceasefire, with the ultimate goal of restoring peace, stability, cooperation, and development for the people of both nations.
