Russia warns of destroying enemy positions with advanced Oreshnik missile

Moscow៖ Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned of destroying enemy positions with the Oreshnik ballistic missile, which is 10 times faster than sound and can travel more than 5,400 kilometers in 30 minutes.

The Oreshnik hypersonic missile was first used on November 21 against the industrial city of Dnepropetrovsk, a major arms production center in Ukraine.

“We are developing the Oreshnik medium- and short-range missiles in response to the US plan to produce and deploy medium- and shorter-range missiles in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region,” Vladimir Putin said in a televised address to the Russian people.

The Russian leader said the Oreshnik hypersonic missile travels at a speed of Mach 10, or 2.5 to 3 kilometers per second, or more than 5,400 kilometers in half an hour.

“We assume the right to use our weapons against the military positions of countries that allow their weapons to be fired at Russian positions,” Putin said.

Putin warned the leaders of countries that allow Ukraine to use long-range weapons into Russian territory to think carefully about this. “In the event of an escalation of aggressive actions against Russia, we will respond decisively and in a manner that is commensurate with each other,” he said. “I would like to ask the ruling elites of countries that are planning to use their military forces against Russia to think carefully about this.”

The Russian leader also warned that “currently there are all kinds of air defense systems developed by the United States in Europe, but they cannot intercept the Oreshnik ballistic missile. It is impossible.”
